The Password Manager, Alias Manager, and Data Manager have great features that are available either from the Toolbar or from the Main menu, but there is an even faster way to generate and retrieve data with Pocket Geek Privacy: the Smartfield Icon.
Tip
This article is about the Smartfield Icon for the browser extension. For easy access to all your accounts, can use the Pocket Geek Privacy Autofill on Android, and the Safari Extension or the Pocket Geek Privacy Autofill on your iOS device.
The Pocket Geek Privacy Smartfield Icon lies inside the input fields of your favorite websites’ forms. It is on the right-hand side and, when your mouse is not over it, you can barely see it. It comes to life with a mouse-over. You can then click on it and enjoy your options.

Tip
If you can’t find the Smartfield Icon, go in the Main Menu and check in your Settings, under Components. You may have chosen to hide it.
Our technology allows us to recognize which type of fields you are trying to fill (are you being asked to give your name? create a password? share a bank account number?). We are then doing our best to serve you with the most relevant options.
For example, if you are on a registration page and you are asked for an email address to be used as a User ID, the Smartfield Icon offers the option to generate an alias email address for you on the spot:
-
Position your mouse in the email input field and click on the Pocket Geek Privacy logo → a drop-down menu appears
-
Click on “Generate email address”
An email address is generated for you and written down directly in the field. It will be unique to this website and any mail sent to it will arrive in your usual inbox.

Tip
You don’t need to try to remember or write down this complicated email address! As we generated it for you, it was saved automatically in your Password Manager if you used it as a User ID to register an account. If you created it for another reason (like subscribing to a newsletter for example), you will be able to identify it in your Alias Manager.
If we have identified that you are on a registration page trying to fill a password field, we offer the options to either generate a strong password for you on the fly or to help you customize one.
Pocket Geek Privacy generates strong passwords up to 24 characters: a combination of letters, digits, and symbols. Not all websites accept symbols in passwords and some require a strict combination of these items. You can customize your password by choosing the number and type of characters and whether it should be pronounceable.
-
Position your mouse in the password input field and click on the Pocket Geek Privacy logo → a drop-down menu appears
-
Click on “Customize password” or “Generate strong password” depending on your needs
A password that suits your needs is then generated and written down directly in the field.
Caution
The password generated is unique and will only work for this account. It is encrypted and stored in your Password Manager immediately. You won’t be able to retrieve it, edit it or delete it without your Master Password.
Tip
If there is second field in the form asking you to confirm the password, this field will be filled at the same time as the first one.
For an account to be truly secure, it needs to be both protected & anonymized, and starting with our version 1.20 you can now do this with one click from the Smartfield Icon when you select “Generate strong and private credentials”.
An alias email address is then generated to be used as a User ID and a strong password is also created at the same time. This set of credentials is then automatically saved in your Password Manager and will be autofilled for you next time you need to log in (you will need to enter your Master Password first to decrypt it). More on this in the next section.
If we have identified that you are on a login page for example and if you have login credentials saved in your Password Manager for this website, then we offer to go and retrieve these for you. No need to remember them.
-
Position your mouse in the first input field of the form and click on the Pocket Geek Privacy logo → a drop-down menu appears
-
Click on “Retrieve credentials”
-
If prompted, enter your Master Password
Your User ID and password for this account are then retrieved for you and written down in the appropriate fields.
Caution
Your Master Password is a sequence of characters that you create and that you — and only you — know. It’s used to decrypt the sensitive data stored in your Managers. You are its only guardian, we truly have no access to it (and therefore can’t misuse it or put it at risk), so make sure to keep it safe and not lose it. The good news is this is the only password you now need to remember!
You can adapt your preferences regarding the Master Password from the security section of your Settings. Learn more
