The Data Manager is accessible from 2 locations: the Main Menu and the Toolbar.
To access the Main Menu, click on the Pocket Geek Privacy logo next to your browser’s navigation bar (top right).
If you can’t find the Toolbar, go in the Main Menu and check in your Settings, under Components. You might have chosen to hide it…
The Data Manager is symbolized by a stack of papers.
Tip
While both icons open the Data Manager, the Toolbar is designed to show you at a glance the information relative to the website you are currently visiting and allow quick actions. The Main Menu on the other hand gives you access to all the data you have collected over time.

Next to each icon is a circle with a number or symbol. For example, if there is a "✓" next to the "stack of paper" icon, then it means that the current website has collected some data about you. Let's say you are visiting acme.com, then it means that, over time, Acme has collected some information about you. It probably has at least one set of login credentials, a list of your searches, shipping addresses, banking information… |
To see the details of the data you've left on that site:
-
Position your mouse on top of the stack of paper → it turns gray and expands
-
Click on the checkmark
The Data Manager opens up and shows you a copy of the personal data Acme has collected about you during your visits (with the date of collection).
Note
What is a piece of data? A piece of sensitive data? A piece of personal data? A Personally Identifiable Information (PII)? What we call a piece of data is a piece of information about you that you wish to keep safe for reasons that are yours and yours only. That's why we give you the option to encrypt any data you may have left behind on the web and that you consider important (we encrypt your passwords by default but you can encrypt any piece of data stored in your Managers that you wish).

Every time you browse online, you leave pieces of personal data behind. The Data Manager can help you keep track of this data by keeping a copy of every piece of data you submit to websites. You can choose to turn this ON with the toggle in the header of your Data Manager.
You can also choose to exclude only specific websites from data collection by expanding a company and switching the toggle that appears underneath it to OFF or through the Toolbar or the Main Menu.
Warning
Unfortunately, voicing your preference about data collection with us will not stop websites from collecting your data… If this is what you want, then you need to request that the site delete the data it has collected about you. If you are a European resident, you will be supported in this request by the European Union and the GDPR.
You can manually add as many pieces of personal data as you wish to your Data Manager: passport numbers, bank account information, social security number… In addition to storing your copy of the data collected by websites, the Data Manager is also a vault and you can protect any and all pieces of data by encrypting them.
To do this:
-
Click on the big gray button (bottom right) → It opens a popup
-
Enter the relevant information in the fields (Company name or Name of Personal Data, Type of Data, Data value)
-
Click on the
icon if you want to encrypt the data -
Click on “Save”
If you forgot to encrypt the data you entered before saving (or didn't want to at the time), don't worry, you can still encrypt it at any time in the Data Manager.
Unless you decide to encrypt it, the data collected and stored in the Data Manager is kept "in the clear" (not encrypted) by default (unlike the Password Manager which encrypts your passwords by default). Not all the collected data is worthy of encryption but some certainly are (bank information, IDs, etc.). We highly recommend that you encrypt any sensitive data, whether it was collected by a website or added manually to the Data Manager.
To do this:
-
Check the box next to the data you wish to encrypt
-
Click on the
icon
If you want to temporarily decrypt (show) encrypted data:
-
Check the box next to the data you wish to temporarily decrypt
-
Click on the
icon -
If prompted, enter your Master Password
Caution
Your Master Password is a sequence of characters that you create and that you — and only you — know. It’s used to decrypt the sensitive data stored in your Managers. You are its only guardian, we truly have no access to it (and therefore can’t misuse it or put it at risk), so make sure to keep it safe and not lose it. The good news is this is the only password you now need to remember!
You can adapt your preferences regarding the Master Password from the security section of your Settings. Learn more
Warning
Encrypting collected data will only encrypt the copy of the data stored in your Data Manager, NOT the data collected and stored by the website you were visiting.
Since the Data Manager can be used as a secured storage vault, we built-in a powerful search engine to help you find what you need easily.
You can use the filters to find where you left important data like passport numbers, personal addresses, credit cards, etc.
Tip
It is possible to encrypt any or all of the pieces of data saved in the Data Manager but, if you do so, the search feature will not be able to re-index the encrypted data, and it will no longer be searchable. If you want to search all of the data stored, make sure to temporarily decrypt (show) it all first.
-
Check the box next to the company/data you decided to remove
-
Click on the
icon -
Confirm when prompted
Warning
Warning! When you delete a company/data from your Data Manager, the data will disappear from your Manager but they are NOT deleted by the site who gathered them. To remove your data from a company’s database, you need to contact them directly.
If you are visiting a webpage with input fields and the data requested has been saved in your Data Manager at some point (let's say they are asking about your phone number and it just so happens that you gave this information a couple days ago on another website on which you allowed Pocket Geek Privacy to collect) then you can retrieve the data easily to fill the form:
-
Go to the website
-
Click on the
icon.
If you are retrieving encrypted data, you will then need to enter your Master Password (this is the prerequisite for your data to be truly safe - No way around it). The appropriate data is retrieved and entered in the field.
You can choose to allow data collection on some sites and not on others, just click on the toggle in the Toolbar.
Gray means that the Data Manager will not collect the data you leave behind on the website you are currently visiting. Green means it will.
Of course your preference will be remembered for every visit to the same website.
If you want to turn data collection completely on or off, you can do so from the Data Manager.

Unfortunately, voicing your preference about data collection with us will not stop websites from collecting your data… If this is what you want, then you need to request that the site delete the data it has collected about you.
